In my opinion, the ultimate World War Z game strategy starts with Teamwork. Ana and I have run in to our fair share of teaming up with failures, trolls, greedy bastards and crappy players and idiotic play. There are some GREAT players out there, BUT the numbers are scarce. I would like to attempt a “standard” that would work in most situations. This has been bugging me for some time and if you’ve been kicked from our session, it was more than likely for a good reason.
This World War Z game strategy is pointed more towards MISSION or Campaign style play than Horde. Some of it can apply to horde, But my plan is to offer a World War Z game strategy for horde at a later date.is pointed more towards MISSION or Campaign style play than Horde. World War Z game strategy – Before joining the session
Before you hit that “go” button, LOOK at what DIFFICULTY you about to join. World War Z game strategy requires players to be set up for the session your about to join. Is it the difficulty 3, 4 5 skulls or is it Extinction? Is it a daily or weekly challenge? Are you capable of handling the environment your about to join?

In another recent session, a young lady who joined one of our session and I questioned whether she was able to hold her own in the difficulty we were playing. She had stated that she had almost all bagdes in this game and is quite capable of holding her own. I was not convinced. She fell down seven times in one session – If that is holding your own so be it – do it elsewhere. Players who cannot remain upright are a burden. The other Team mates have to kill at least 25% more zombies.
World War Z game strategy – Before joining the session
World War Z game strategy allows you to look at your perks and modify them to benefit the TEAM. Solo play will eventually disintegrate the chances of success. Prior to joining a session, this is what I recommend:
Prior to going into ANY game, set up your perks. You have the ability to set up and save THREE different perk combinations. I have one set up as a “helper”, one for Horde and one for the average challenges.
For example, I play Fixer a lot. I have one World War Z game strategy perk set up as a “helping” Fixer which includes 125% fast revives, but doesn’t carry a breach charge. It also has the max ammo so I can drop two ammo bags and each bag contains 4 uses, ONE load for each player. Its set to explosive ammo to knock down enemies quicker. It also has perks to support any defenses players may put down on the ground with the “Bandolier” perk. So, set up your three perk slots and you can go into a game set up for the conditions at hand.
Another is WHY carry explosive ammo into a Challenge if the game is forcing you to use Crossbows? As the Fixer take the perk which allows you to bring turrets back to life instead – Think about the game your about to join and how you can help the Team.
World War Z game strategy – Joining the session
Pro Tip: A Team mate on a PC CANNOT see typed text from XBOX or PlayStation. I am sure it is the other way around.
Check your microphone to see if it works. Steam offers a “voice” area to test your equipment. Once in the game let people know you joined the session so they can either hold the line and let you catch up. The Team mates may also paint / tag (highlight) several goodies that are on the ground that an newly spawned in Team mate might find beneficial.
It also lets them know to watch your progression and where you are at on the map. The pesky Creepers can launch off from any where and if one person is down, at least another may peel off to help the person who is down. A friendly voice at the beginning of the session may trigger an actual team mate to go rescue the player who is down, but it would be nice to know what knocked you down so players can be prepared for it.
World War Z game strategy – Stick together. The objective is to win, not run away.
When people join a game, within the first couple of minutes, their style of play is evident. Are they going to run away with their pants on fire? Are they going to run into traps, or shoot those traps instead of disarming them ? The World War Z game strategy is to stick together and eventually win the session.
The farther some one runs away, the more zones they cross which triggers more zombies and eventually swarms or hordes of zombies. Don’t yell that your down and need help when there is a long distance to cover and a lot of zombies triggered to spawn between you and the rest of the Team. You put yourself into that situation, don’t expect me to do the same or, see you continue that failed approach.
Players that come in with an open mic or are playing music that others are forced to hear will probably get the boot. The surroundings gives you hints at what lies ahead. Introducing unwanted sound in the game is not only annoying but can eliminate that clue and causing players enter a dangerous situation.
World War Z game strategy – QUIET. C4 and Claymores and Grenades are NOT.

I WILL shoot claymores if a Team mate is placing them anywhere that will potentially damage another Team mate. They slap them down with out any planning. Why the hell are you planting claymores or C4 close to the team mates and not against fences or areas farther away? Just because YOU aren’t going to be standing there does not mean others won’t be.
World War Z game strategy – READ the descriptions of the perk.
Read the description of those perks ! IF it does not say it will KILL them, its worthless. If it damages or is lethal to zombies, its worthless. They will still be standing up for a while and that eats at resources.
The C4 does NOT need to explode via the button command. Team mates can shoot a single C4 and avoid having all the other C4 from going off as well. The “green gas cloud” is worthless. Zombies are NOT going to instantly fall to that gas. What that “green cloud” does is hide any potential zombies that may be coming from that direction. Use a perk that will effectively kill more zombies.
Molotovs are only good in one situation – Throwing them where a slasher class Team mate is and they have to be set up with the appropriate perks to take no damage from fire AND have the perk and weapon which allows they to not use stamina when killing zombies that are on fire. Don’t assume they have the perks set up…ask.
OK, maybe two. Cook some rats. Throw and run. Hopefully you have more than one fire bomb and good sprinting speed.
Claymores – putting sound or fire on claymores is highly ineffective – try setting up those claymores so they detonate when there are 5 or more zombies in the area and effectively kill up to 10 zombies vice one zombie foe one claymore. The fire is going to damage a Team mate more than a single zombie.
World War Z game strategy – Avoid FRIENDLY FIRE !

Explosive ammo is the better choice in close combat situations. Why? The other option is bullet penetration. What’s that do? With bullet penetration, that bullet goes through the enemy that you just shot and may well head toward the Team mate you are “trying” to help.
You might just end up damaging the player vice helping them. If there are players really close to each other in the field of play, shoot the enemies either in the head causing bullets to fly higher than the height of a player or, shoot the enemies in the legs, causing any bullets to hit the ground and not hitting a Team mate. If there are one or two zombies near a Team mate, let them deal with them. If additional zombies are headed towards them, pick them off before they get too close.
DON’T use a heavy weapon and shoot it in an area where there are team mates standing or have fallen down. It can seriously damage them. The higher the difficulty the higher the damage.
ALWAYS go behind a player that is shooting a gun. You are probably going to take some damage from crossing in front of them. Take that extra effort to avoid some friendly fire. DO NOT drift into the Team mates view to take kills from them. The maps are huge – there is NO need to be in the exact same spot another Team mate is standing.
Know how to knock down the bigger zombies. Explosive ammo works excellent against Juggernauts and Bulls. Just shoot them in the head or chest and they will fall down quickly, even if they are sprinting toward you.
If one Team mate is knocking down zombies effectively, save your ammo and look else where – there are bound to be others.
World War Z game strategy – Equipment bags should be prioritized !
Equipment bags are best used for two types of classes… the Medic ( if you want STIM heals or to be revived) and the Fixer (if you want your share of ammo). Most other classes can utilize the “timer” feature to get their supplies.
For example, the Gunslinger can avoid taking supply bags and take the perk which allows them to gain grenades without using any supply bags. And when the supply bags are in short supply – the Team mates who have a timer feature on will always be generating their own items of destruction. Don’t ask me for bullets if I am down to a single or no equipment bag at all.
World War Z game strategy – Weapons and Equipment Improvement bags
In my opinion there are only two classes who would benefit from the EQUIPMENT improvement bag and they are the Medic and the Fixer. They can assist the team with the essentials in order to win the mission – heals and bullets. The other types of improvement bags should be open season for anyone.
World War Z game strategy – Want to earn a kick ? Come into our session and….
- Show Greed as your best attribute. You can go elsewhere. If some one breaches a door, be courteous. YOU should not be the first person in that room greedily sucking up supplies and weapons – if it wasn’t for that Team mate you would not have had access to that area. They breached the door to help the Team and are looking for something they need. they should at least have the courtesy of opening the chests and seeing if they need anything and if not, paint or tag – even voice that they don’t need any goodies in that locker.
- Run away from the Team. I will voice my opinion on this and the way to correct it is not to revive them at all. If they don’t want to stick together and play as a Team then they are not a Team player. It shows greed and ignorance. the farther they run away the higher the chance they will spawn new zombies along the way and I personally am NOT running up there to save your happy ass, I will initiate a kick and let a true team mate join the session.
- Take an Item identified for another. If some one is communicating over voice and they are asking a person to come over to them and take this weapon, they know that person and how they are set up to kill more zombies. Some one else that is listening to that communication and waltzes their happy ass over there and takes that weapon is just wrong. If the person declines and is happy with what they have it should be noted, then it should be tagged / painted for any one to grab.
- In my opinion, drones are worthless. They offer a false sense of hope that this mechanical heap is going to keep you upright. The Drone master class is selfish and weak in Team style perks. I will announce that I DO NOT want a drone – EVER, since it throws off my head shot aim. People will counter that its above you and doesn’t impede your shots, which is flat incorrect. It effects me – I know it does. Why these people do not ask people if they want a drone or not is beyond me….If one is given to me I will stand next to a fence line and let that worthless heap of a drone shoot until it blows up. They person giving that drone can put up with the extra zombies as I attempt to get rid of that distraction. If it is there to revive me and I cannot get rid of it – the ultimate way to get rid of it is to kick the player – and I will initiate the kick and voice my opinion about the useless contraption.
- Show the traits of a Troll. Don’t come into one of our sessions and spawn in and don’t move. Worse yet, constantly fall down and be dragged along at check points or revived over time. If you are a burden more than an asset you will be kicked. Why ? additional players bring in additional zombies. If one or more players are constantly falling down it will greatly add to the number of zombies that the Team mates who are upright have to kill why you are down again.
- You were kicked for a reason. If you’re kicked and attempt to continually join again, I’ll add you to the block list and let you stay there so we don’t have to deal with it.
